Cultural Event ‘Unity in Diversity’

28 States of India showcased their cultures at lovely Professional University

* The Department of Cultural Affairs celebrated annual event  ‘Unity in Diversity’
* The theme this year was Monuments and Festivals of India
* The Mega Event continued for two days
* Great Monuments in miniature well exhibited their splendour

 

Twenty Eight States across India were fully displayed inside the campus of Lovely Professional University through its Department of Cultural Affairs, under the event ‘Unity in Diversity’, as its annual property. This was to provide all the students a mixed flavor of awareness for different Cultures, Customs, Costumes, Languages, Foods etc of India. This was celebrated with marvellous ceremonial splendour, at the campus for two days with the massive arrangement of 28 different stalls for the different states. The functioning of these was inaugurated, at a single stretch, separately, by the Chairman of the Lovely Group, Mr Romesh Mittal, Vice-Chairman Mr Naresh Mittal, Chancellor of the University, Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro-Chancellor Ms Rashmi Mittal, Director General Er HR Singla, Senior Deans, Deans and Associate Deans. Students from all the Schools of the University worked under co-ordination to display an assortment of specialties of these states, in terms of the annual theme of monuments and festivals of India.

Elaborating the motive of the mega event to the Media, the Chancellor Mr Mittal informed: “India’s great philosophy of Unity in Diversity has made it supreme and distinguished across globe. However, most of the persons remain ignorant about it. As such the Department of cultural affairs of the University has come forward to showcase the greatness of India annually under different themes every year. We want that our students who hail from different nooks and corners, not only of India but world also, must learn and imbibe the power of the common string that keeps binding all Indians together in oneness.” He further added: “We want to propagate this ideology of the great builders of our nation among them, through display of different aspects of Indian culture, face to face. As such they will themselves ponder over the ethnic diversity and start understanding each other better on humane grounds, across all barriers.”

After Lighting of the Lamp a huge colorful cultural procession, comprising of more than 1000 participating students proceeded to the celebration point. They displayed their thematic peculiarities of the state in terms of festive occasions, dances, melodies, attires etc. With the inauguration of the stalls, the students came to know about the facts and figures of each and every state. The well-depiction of famous Char-Minar, Taj Mahal, Konark Mandir, Howrah Bridge, Kullu Dussehra, Bodh -Gaya, Sanchi Stoop, Hawa Mahal, Gate-Way of India, Golden Temple, Goa Beach, Badri Nath, Land of Rising Sun, Kamakhya Temple, Kanglasha, Kharchi Pooja, Gwalior Fort, Sri JaganNath Rath-Yatra, Eden Garden, SAIL Industry,Khargpur Platform, each representing their state in miniature form, was applauded by all the onlookers. The participants also kept performing for the important dances of their states like Kuchipuddi, Bharatnatyam, Laavni, Oddissi, Bhangra, Giddha, Natti, Bihu etc. They had also set up separate kiosks to put on view the Ornaments and Dresses worn, the Food-Items relished, the Languages Spoken, the Singing, Music and Dancing enjoyed, in their respective states.

It is illustrative that LPU imparts professional education to more than 25,000 students from almost all the States, Union Territories of India and 16 other Countries from across the globe. A few students from Indonesia, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Congo, Bangladesh, Nepal said in a voice; “We were never aware of such rich traditions, customs and cultures prevalent in India. On visiting the different kiosks, we have a feeling of visiting the whole of India itself. This event has definitely given us an elaborated insight into how different customs and traditions are followed in different regions of this great country.”
