Eleven students of Lovely Professional University have got selected by Nestle India Limited under a campus Placement Drive. Nestle had invited students of B.Tech Biotech, passing out 2011 batch. After the meticulous conduction of the placement drive at Shri Baldev Raj Mittal Auditorium of the University, 11 students were finally selected following the Selection Criteria based on PPT, Written Test, HR Interview etc. The selected ones will join their duties on 26th July 2011.

On this occasion, the Pro-Chancellor of the University, Ms Rashmi Mittal said: “The hard working students have suitably availed of the opportunity, in the prime of their career start. It is a healthy sign that they have grabbed a coveted chance to serve and grow with a company like ‘Nestle’ of international reputation.” She added: “It is wonderful that they are going to imbibe the company’s transparent business practices, pioneering environment policy in so early an age.” She also wished: “May these promising students add more and more luster to their career in future, too.”

 As a ritual of honouring the students who have shown outstanding achievements during last one year, Lovely Professional University today celebrated its annual ‘University Honour Ceremony‘. The ceremony is to recognize the talented University students for their outstanding achievements in the area of Academics, Culture and Sports. The Chancellor of the University, Mr Ashok Mittal himself honoured the illustrious students. On this propitious occasion, the parents of these students and invited guests were also prominently present. In all 591 students were distributed Academic Honour Certificates, Awards & cash prizes worth Rs 26 Lakhs. The parents, too, shared their experiences in relation to the University.

The Chancellor Mr Mittal congratulated the honoured students as well as their parents and said: “Seeing so many students with national and international level achievements, I feel proud that they have held aloft the flag of the University sky-high. They have shined not only in our own country, but have also won scholarships in country like Australia. It is a matter of holding our heads high as these talented students have won many Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals at national level Sports and Cultural competitions also. For such talented students, our University is ever-ready to accord all the support and motivation required. ” Inspiring the students from the dais, he also said: “We want more and more students to grab such opportunities to have scholarships by revealing their real worth.” Holding Parents in high esteems, he spoke: “Parents are the real factor in the growth of their wards; and, showing confidence in our services, they have made us grow also, as the largest university of India.”

It is worth explaining that near about six hundred students of the years 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 Batches were honoured. The awards were bestowed upon those who have shown their brilliance by scoring 9.5 and above CGPA in academics and by winning medals during National level cultural and sports activities like Inter- Zonal National Youth Festivals/Sports Activities held in collaboration with Association of Indian Universities and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India. On this occasion, Videos of Dreams prepared by the students themselves were also screened to highlight the dreams and aspirations of the students.

 Sharing their experiences, S Kartar Singh, father of Jasmeen Kaur and Ms Neena Gupta, mother of Neha Mahajan said: “We had never imagined that our daughters possessed a fire of talents within them. We are really very thankful to those teachers at the University, who motivated them to be excellent.” Some parents of other honoured students, Mr Rajinder, Mrs Kamal, Mrs Sarabjeet, hailing from other states, exhibited the similar feelings: “We used to be worried about our wards in consideration to the distance and change of culture, but today we are feeling as proud parents that in the great environment of the University they have developed themselves as the lovable human beings.”

The School of Engineering & Computer Applications of Lovely Professional University organized a two-day mega Tech-Fest ‘INVICTUS-11’. During this mind freaking & breath taking series of fierce battles, Lectures, project displays & events were witnessed. The Chancellor of the University, Mr Ashok Mittal inaugurated the fest. He was accompanied by Senior Deans, Deans, HODs of the School. Thousands of sharpened minds, unleashed their ideas to exhibit wonderful creativity, enthusiasm and courage to be pitted against the best.

Congratulating and inspiring the young innovators for their best creations, the Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “The novel demonstration of different projects, made by sharp students, are about those technologies which are needed the most in our present day life. These are also making headlines now-a-days. The way they have showcased some of the new technology will certainly benefit the other participants to learn hands-on how imagination can take perfect practical shape.” Explaining a quote of great scientist Faraday “of what use an unborn baby is”, he motivated the students to keep generating and shaping their ideas for the benefit of one and all, in this world. He added: “Had Wright- Brothers not shaped their ideas to fly in sky, the distant lands would still have been unapproachable. Without perseverance of Thomas Alva Edison, we would have still groping in the darkness for illuminations. And, mobile phones could not be possible without invention of Cylinder Phonographs.”

There was organization of numerous events in the fest covering all the fields from advanced coding to simple logic, algorithm design to computer fundamentals. Some illustrative of these were ‘Coding Maestros’ to join the battle of codes, ‘Reign of Errors’ to smash the bug, ‘Project-o-Holic‘ for talk of technology and better place to witness it, ‘Guest Lectures‘ on exotic topics and informative insights, ‘Query Fury‘ to quench mind-boggling query, ‘Mind Vision’ to draw what you like, ‘Tech Adventure’ for treasure hunt with a difference, ‘Fanatic Brains‘ to animate the world around you, ‘Algo-Rhythm Tailor‘ to build challenging algorithms, ‘Game-O-Sphere‘ for everything from Formula-1 cars to extreme shooting, ‘Computer Fundas‘ about computer basics and such like many more. All the winners were awarded certificates and attractive prizes during the closing ceremony.

During this, tremendous response of students was seen for Project-O-Holic and Quiz on computer fundas. There was also a workshop on “Networking Tools & Devices” for participants to imbibe Networking Basics, Topologies (Case Study: LPU), OSI Model Implementation, IP Schemes & Sub netting, Traffic on Fiber Material, UTP Cabling etc. Similarly a guest lecture titled “CLOUD COMPUTING MADE SIMPLE” was also delivered. They also enjoyed a lot visiting different stalls of eatables, fun games of their choices.

His Excellency Ousmane Tandia, Ambassador of the Republic of Mali, South Africa paid a visit to Lovely Professional University. He was accompanied by the Second Counsellor of Mali, Mr Seydou Coulibaly. They were here to see co-operation possibilities between the Government of Mali and the University. They met the Chancellor of the University, Mr Ashok Mittal, Director Navien Juneja, Senior Deans Dr Sanjay Modi, Dr Lovi Raj Gupta and Deputy Director Er Aman Mittal. There were discussions in regard to the mutual benefit of the students and faculty of the two countries. These were to develop collaborative research, education programmes, exchange, study abroad programmes and mutual linguistic enhancement programmes etc. The honourable guests were also let aware about the doings and achievements of the University through detailed presentation made by the Human Resource Department of the University.

Welcoming the high profiled guests, Mr Ashok Mittal said: “Many countries have started making their way towards India in imbibing its values based education system. The present visit by the dignitaries from ‘Mali’ is another testimony of this.” Highlighting the purpose of the visit, Mr Mittal continued: “We are always eager to accept proposals of mutual co-operation to reform, propagate the education scenario not only in India but world around so that the new generation may be able to shoulder the responsibilities in the real sense of the words.

Revealing kind gesture while making all appreciations for world level infrastructure, hostels, high-tech laboratories, cultural diversity, pedagogy, the ambassador said: “It was really a thrilling experience to visit one of the prestigious universities in India.” Thanking the LPU authorities, he said: “Your interest to contribute to the development of my country by improving the quality of education and providing new skills of training is highly appreciable.” He further added: “I can ensure my availability and commitment to work closely with you.” He also interacted with the students from Africa studying in the campus and told them: “Youth is the future and it is important for every country to have bright youth.”

It is worth illustration that during the past two years, the Ministry of Education of Mali has taken decisive and revolutionary measures to reform and enhance the education system of the country. In this context, they have made approach to the country like India where world level universities are regularly making marvellous innovations in relation to dissemination of knowledge. Global Astronomical Month celebrated at Lovely Professional University ( UTTARA-2011)

The students and members of the staff of Lovely Professional University celebrated great astronomical event where students observed and studied wonderful activities of start studded sky for two continuous nights. They saw Jupiter, Saturn, Double clusters, moon craters, milky way, seven stars etc, with the aid of 16 telescopes. There was also screening of a documentary related to the birth of stars, planets, meteors, asteroids and black holes.  This event, named ‘UTTARA’, was to venerate Global Astronomy Month (GAM). Four renowned astronomers from the Association of Amateur Astronomers Delhi and Nehru Planetarium were specially present on the occasion. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Chancellor of the University, Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro-Chancellor, Ms Rashmi Mittal, Director General, Er HR Singla and Senior Deans, Deans of different schools along with other students and members of staff. The invited experts presented detailed account regarding astronomical objects to all the enthusiasts towards Nature’s domain.

The Chancellor Mr Mittal said: “The passion to share the night sky wonders has always been fascinating us, being a great mother to all itches of curiosity. As such it is a wonderful science to study, explore and keep probing further.” He also said: “Through this celebration, we are giving our students an attractive opportunity to be involved in real time space science studies and to be at the forefront of research at the international level. So many Indian scientists are already working with NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) Jet Propulsion Laboratory, USA.” Further motivating the students to be a great part of this important branch of science, he added: “Recently, an Indian student, Atul Felix Payapily, from Kerala (Coimbatore) has done a great job by discovering an Asteroid, as a part of an international campaign launched by International Astronomical search collaboration (IASC), Hardin Simmons University, Texas. Prior to him many other Indian students have also earned name in this area, with wonderful opportunities to grab. Still India needs more and more of such devoted students towards this science & technology. This event is indeed a great step taken by our university, by creating a Space Club, to awaken the young minds towards such much needed studies.” He also hoped that soon some students will certainly bring name and fame to the University through their novel space explorations.

 It is illustrative that in order to continue the excitement of the unprecedented International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA2009), Global Astronomy Month-2011, in April, is to exhibit what wonders astronomy community world around can do. Amateur astronomers, clubs, science centers and others are holding events by the thousands around the world, attracting the largest public audience ever. Global Astronomy Month is Astronomers without Borders’ response, bringing new ideas, new opportunities and bringing enthusiasts together worldwide, celebrating ‘One People, One Sky’. In fact, boundaries vanish when we all look skyward. Regardless of earthly differences in culture, nationality or religion, the heavens are a common meeting ground for all of Earth’s inhabitants. Whoever, whatever or wherever we are, we all share the same sky. Sharing is an integral part of appreciating the cosmos.

To remain ever active towards sharing social responsibility, Lovely Professional University organized a Two-Day Blood Donation Camp with the help of Rotary Blood Bank and Rotary Club (Saket), New Delhi, at Blocks No. 20 & 27 of the University. It was to streamline the bubbling enthusiasm of more than 2000 of donor-students and members of the staff who remained queued up to donate blood on both the days. A contingent of 25 Team Members comprising of doctors and technicians, under the guidance of Dr (Col.) SK Sharma, Dr SatyaJeet from RBB (Tughlakabad) and Mr Farook A Siddiqui, President, Rotary Club (Saket) of District-3010, New Delhi, had visited the campus in two Blood Mobile Vans, boldly painted with motivating slogans to streamline the donation work. The camp was organized in very safe and secure environment. In all, 1,100 units of blood were gathered; whereas, many of the donors remained awaiting for their turn towards this humane cause.

For this endeavour, great Rotarian Sudarshan Aggarwal, RBB, Chairman and former Governor, Uttaranchal & Sikkim has conveyed through his inspiring message: “This is the first opportunity for RBB, Delhi, to join hands with LPU on humanitarian grounds. The response of the University donors is indeed worth much applauds and appreciations.” Thanking the blood donors on behalf of the blood-needy patients, he added: “We want that our association with University should continue for years to come so that a multitude of socially awakened human force may permeate everywhere in this world. In this regard, we have specially chosen this university as many thousands of its students belong to almost all the states and union territories of India as well as many foreign lands.”

On this organization, the Director General of the University, Er HR Singla said: ” To continue sharing social responsibility; a much needed community conscientiousness is regularly developed into very being of each and every university student and member of the staff. That is why such camps and many other related organizations have become prominent feature, at the university, along with academics.” Appreciating the efforts of Rtn PC Bansil, senior member RC Saket, Rtn Tejinder singh and Rtn Siddiqui from Saket, he further added: “Their zeal to work for the society, leaving aside their all other necessary mundane affairs, have really boosted donors from University to come forward and set example for others to follow. In fact, donation is a contribution to help others. The gap in demand and supply of blood is regularly needed to be abridged.

A few of the volunteer donors said: “When one donates blood, one surely feels elated to give someone unknown the most precious gift of life. We understand fully that ‘blood donors are life savers’ and ‘donating blood is a divine experience’.”

These surveys actually have a huge impact on students who find it difficult at times to choose among the lot. Such up-gradations are really appreciable.”

They made intensive queries and cleared their doubts about Programmes of their choice, successful career, part time job opportunities, equivalence to other top universities of the world and even lurking uncertainties of being in a foreign land.” He also said: “We want to accord all types of opportunities to an aspiring student so that he/ she may prove out to be an essential part of the increasingly globally- connected world.” He further added: “Such Expos are managed so as to ensure to have our alumni more global.”

भव्य समागम के अंत में यूनिवर्सिटी के कुलपति श्री मित्तल ने विद्यार्थियों के कार्य की सराहना करते हुए कहा “यह सच है की भारत विभिन्न संस्कृतियों को समाये एक बहुत बड़ा व चित्ताकर्षक देश है, अगर किसी व्यक्ति को सम्पूर्ण भारत वर्ष के दर्शन करने हो तो उसे कई साल लग जाये लेकिन जिस संजीदगी और असाधारण ढंग से हमारे विद्यार्थियों ने दो दिनों में हमें भारत दर्शन करवाए उसका कोई तोड़ नहीं | खास बात यह रही की यूनिवर्सिटी में भारत के हर प्रदेश से विद्यार्थी शिक्षा प्राप्त कर रहा है और अपने-अपने प्रदेश को सब तक पहुँचाने में उन्हें कोई दिक्कत नहीं हुई | इन सभी विद्यार्थियों के सहयोग से आज एल.पी.यू कैंपस में हमने भारत दर्शन किये इसके लिए मैं विद्यार्थियों व सांस्कृतिक विभाग के सदस्यों का धन्यवाद करता हूँ” |

असम, कर्णाटक, राजस्थान, मिज्जोरम, आंध्र प्रदेश आदि जैसे कुछ प्रदेशों के विजेता विद्यार्थियों ने इनाम हासिल करने के बाद एक स्वर में कहा “यह दो दिन हमारे लिए बहुत ख़ास रहे | हमें बहुत ख़ुशी है की हमने अपने प्रदेश की अगुवाई करते हुए इनाम जीते पर उससे भी ज्यादा ख़ुशी हमें यह है की एक प्रतियोगी होते हुए भी हमने समस्त भारत को जाना | भारत से जुड़े जो तथ्य हमें इस प्रोग्राम के दौरान जानने को मिले वह हमारे लिए बिलकुल नए और नायाब थे, इस आयोजन के लिए हम अपनी यूनिवर्सिटी के आभारी है” |
