 As a ritual of honouring the students who have shown outstanding achievements during last one year, Lovely Professional University today celebrated its annual ‘University Honour Ceremony‘. The ceremony is to recognize the talented University students for their outstanding achievements in the area of Academics, Culture and Sports. The Chancellor of the University, Mr Ashok Mittal himself honoured the illustrious students. On this propitious occasion, the parents of these students and invited guests were also prominently present. In all 591 students were distributed Academic Honour Certificates, Awards & cash prizes worth Rs 26 Lakhs. The parents, too, shared their experiences in relation to the University.

The Chancellor Mr Mittal congratulated the honoured students as well as their parents and said: “Seeing so many students with national and international level achievements, I feel proud that they have held aloft the flag of the University sky-high. They have shined not only in our own country, but have also won scholarships in country like Australia. It is a matter of holding our heads high as these talented students have won many Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals at national level Sports and Cultural competitions also. For such talented students, our University is ever-ready to accord all the support and motivation required. ” Inspiring the students from the dais, he also said: “We want more and more students to grab such opportunities to have scholarships by revealing their real worth.” Holding Parents in high esteems, he spoke: “Parents are the real factor in the growth of their wards; and, showing confidence in our services, they have made us grow also, as the largest university of India.”

It is worth explaining that near about six hundred students of the years 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 Batches were honoured. The awards were bestowed upon those who have shown their brilliance by scoring 9.5 and above CGPA in academics and by winning medals during National level cultural and sports activities like Inter- Zonal National Youth Festivals/Sports Activities held in collaboration with Association of Indian Universities and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India. On this occasion, Videos of Dreams prepared by the students themselves were also screened to highlight the dreams and aspirations of the students.

 Sharing their experiences, S Kartar Singh, father of Jasmeen Kaur and Ms Neena Gupta, mother of Neha Mahajan said: “We had never imagined that our daughters possessed a fire of talents within them. We are really very thankful to those teachers at the University, who motivated them to be excellent.” Some parents of other honoured students, Mr Rajinder, Mrs Kamal, Mrs Sarabjeet, hailing from other states, exhibited the similar feelings: “We used to be worried about our wards in consideration to the distance and change of culture, but today we are feeling as proud parents that in the great environment of the University they have developed themselves as the lovable human beings.”

The School of Engineering & Computer Applications of Lovely Professional University organized a two-day mega Tech-Fest ‘INVICTUS-11’. During this mind freaking & breath taking series of fierce battles, Lectures, project displays & events were witnessed. The Chancellor of the University, Mr Ashok Mittal inaugurated the fest. He was accompanied by Senior Deans, Deans, HODs of the School. Thousands of sharpened minds, unleashed their ideas to exhibit wonderful creativity, enthusiasm and courage to be pitted against the best.

Congratulating and inspiring the young innovators for their best creations, the Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: “The novel demonstration of different projects, made by sharp students, are about those technologies which are needed the most in our present day life. These are also making headlines now-a-days. The way they have showcased some of the new technology will certainly benefit the other participants to learn hands-on how imagination can take perfect practical shape.” Explaining a quote of great scientist Faraday “of what use an unborn baby is”, he motivated the students to keep generating and shaping their ideas for the benefit of one and all, in this world. He added: “Had Wright- Brothers not shaped their ideas to fly in sky, the distant lands would still have been unapproachable. Without perseverance of Thomas Alva Edison, we would have still groping in the darkness for illuminations. And, mobile phones could not be possible without invention of Cylinder Phonographs.”

There was organization of numerous events in the fest covering all the fields from advanced coding to simple logic, algorithm design to computer fundamentals. Some illustrative of these were ‘Coding Maestros’ to join the battle of codes, ‘Reign of Errors’ to smash the bug, ‘Project-o-Holic‘ for talk of technology and better place to witness it, ‘Guest Lectures‘ on exotic topics and informative insights, ‘Query Fury‘ to quench mind-boggling query, ‘Mind Vision’ to draw what you like, ‘Tech Adventure’ for treasure hunt with a difference, ‘Fanatic Brains‘ to animate the world around you, ‘Algo-Rhythm Tailor‘ to build challenging algorithms, ‘Game-O-Sphere‘ for everything from Formula-1 cars to extreme shooting, ‘Computer Fundas‘ about computer basics and such like many more. All the winners were awarded certificates and attractive prizes during the closing ceremony.

During this, tremendous response of students was seen for Project-O-Holic and Quiz on computer fundas. There was also a workshop on “Networking Tools & Devices” for participants to imbibe Networking Basics, Topologies (Case Study: LPU), OSI Model Implementation, IP Schemes & Sub netting, Traffic on Fiber Material, UTP Cabling etc. Similarly a guest lecture titled “CLOUD COMPUTING MADE SIMPLE” was also delivered. They also enjoyed a lot visiting different stalls of eatables, fun games of their choices.

Global Astronomical Month celebrated at Lovely Professional University ( UTTARA-2011)

The students and members of the staff of Lovely Professional University celebrated great astronomical event where students observed and studied wonderful activities of start studded sky for two continuous nights. They saw Jupiter, Saturn, Double clusters, moon craters, milky way, seven stars etc, with the aid of 16 telescopes. There was also screening of a documentary related to the birth of stars, planets, meteors, asteroids and black holes.  This event, named ‘UTTARA’, was to venerate Global Astronomy Month (GAM). Four renowned astronomers from the Association of Amateur Astronomers Delhi and Nehru Planetarium were specially present on the occasion. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Chancellor of the University, Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro-Chancellor, Ms Rashmi Mittal, Director General, Er HR Singla and Senior Deans, Deans of different schools along with other students and members of staff. The invited experts presented detailed account regarding astronomical objects to all the enthusiasts towards Nature’s domain.

The Chancellor Mr Mittal said: “The passion to share the night sky wonders has always been fascinating us, being a great mother to all itches of curiosity. As such it is a wonderful science to study, explore and keep probing further.” He also said: “Through this celebration, we are giving our students an attractive opportunity to be involved in real time space science studies and to be at the forefront of research at the international level. So many Indian scientists are already working with NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) Jet Propulsion Laboratory, USA.” Further motivating the students to be a great part of this important branch of science, he added: “Recently, an Indian student, Atul Felix Payapily, from Kerala (Coimbatore) has done a great job by discovering an Asteroid, as a part of an international campaign launched by International Astronomical search collaboration (IASC), Hardin Simmons University, Texas. Prior to him many other Indian students have also earned name in this area, with wonderful opportunities to grab. Still India needs more and more of such devoted students towards this science & technology. This event is indeed a great step taken by our university, by creating a Space Club, to awaken the young minds towards such much needed studies.” He also hoped that soon some students will certainly bring name and fame to the University through their novel space explorations.

 It is illustrative that in order to continue the excitement of the unprecedented International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA2009), Global Astronomy Month-2011, in April, is to exhibit what wonders astronomy community world around can do. Amateur astronomers, clubs, science centers and others are holding events by the thousands around the world, attracting the largest public audience ever. Global Astronomy Month is Astronomers without Borders’ response, bringing new ideas, new opportunities and bringing enthusiasts together worldwide, celebrating ‘One People, One Sky’. In fact, boundaries vanish when we all look skyward. Regardless of earthly differences in culture, nationality or religion, the heavens are a common meeting ground for all of Earth’s inhabitants. Whoever, whatever or wherever we are, we all share the same sky. Sharing is an integral part of appreciating the cosmos.

To remain ever active towards sharing social responsibility, Lovely Professional University organized a Two-Day Blood Donation Camp with the help of Rotary Blood Bank and Rotary Club (Saket), New Delhi, at Blocks No. 20 & 27 of the University. It was to streamline the bubbling enthusiasm of more than 2000 of donor-students and members of the staff who remained queued up to donate blood on both the days. A contingent of 25 Team Members comprising of doctors and technicians, under the guidance of Dr (Col.) SK Sharma, Dr SatyaJeet from RBB (Tughlakabad) and Mr Farook A Siddiqui, President, Rotary Club (Saket) of District-3010, New Delhi, had visited the campus in two Blood Mobile Vans, boldly painted with motivating slogans to streamline the donation work. The camp was organized in very safe and secure environment. In all, 1,100 units of blood were gathered; whereas, many of the donors remained awaiting for their turn towards this humane cause.

For this endeavour, great Rotarian Sudarshan Aggarwal, RBB, Chairman and former Governor, Uttaranchal & Sikkim has conveyed through his inspiring message: “This is the first opportunity for RBB, Delhi, to join hands with LPU on humanitarian grounds. The response of the University donors is indeed worth much applauds and appreciations.” Thanking the blood donors on behalf of the blood-needy patients, he added: “We want that our association with University should continue for years to come so that a multitude of socially awakened human force may permeate everywhere in this world. In this regard, we have specially chosen this university as many thousands of its students belong to almost all the states and union territories of India as well as many foreign lands.”

On this organization, the Director General of the University, Er HR Singla said: ” To continue sharing social responsibility; a much needed community conscientiousness is regularly developed into very being of each and every university student and member of the staff. That is why such camps and many other related organizations have become prominent feature, at the university, along with academics.” Appreciating the efforts of Rtn PC Bansil, senior member RC Saket, Rtn Tejinder singh and Rtn Siddiqui from Saket, he further added: “Their zeal to work for the society, leaving aside their all other necessary mundane affairs, have really boosted donors from University to come forward and set example for others to follow. In fact, donation is a contribution to help others. The gap in demand and supply of blood is regularly needed to be abridged.

A few of the volunteer donors said: “When one donates blood, one surely feels elated to give someone unknown the most precious gift of life. We understand fully that ‘blood donors are life savers’ and ‘donating blood is a divine experience’.”

लाखों किलोमीटर वर्ग क्षेत्रफल में फैले 121 करोड़ की आबादी वाले महान भारत देश के दर्शन अगर किसी को करने को तो उसे सालों साल लग जाये | लेकिन इन सालों के सफ़र को लवली प्रोफैशनल यूनिवर्सिटी के सांस्कृतिक विभाग ने दो दिनों में समेट दिया और अपने सलाना प्रोग्राम “विविधता में एकता” (Unity in Diversity), के ज़रिये 28 राज्यों की संस्कृति का अधभुत प्रदर्शन किया | 2 और 3 अप्रैल को चले इस सांस्कृतिक कुंभ में यूनिवर्सिटी के विद्यार्थियों ने भारत के विभिन्न रंग जैसे संस्कृति, प्रथा, वेश-भूषा, भाषा, खान-पान आदि दर्शाए | भारत की संस्कृति को जानने की चाह लिए यूनिवर्सिटी के हजारों देशी व विदेशी विद्यार्थियों ने इस समारोह में हिस्सा लिया |

प्रोग्राम के पहले दिन जहा विद्यार्थियों द्वारा तैयार किये गए 28 राज्यों की संस्कृति को दर्शाते स्टाल सबके आकर्षण का केंद्र रहे वही वही दूसरे दिन विद्यार्थियों द्वारा पेश किये गए भारत के विभिन्न लोक नाच जैसे कुच्चिपुड़ी, भरतनाट्यम, लावनी, ओडिस्सी, भांगड़ा, गिद्दा, नात्ति, बिहू आदि ने पधारे महमानों का दिल मोह लिया | प्रोग्राम के समापन समारोह पर लवली ग्रुप के चेयरमैन श्री रमेश मित्तल, एल.पी.यू.के कुलपति श्री अशोक मित्तल, प्रो-चांसलर श्रीमती रश्मि मित्तल, डायरेक्टर जनरल इंजिनियर एच.आर सिंगला, सिनिअर डीन’स व डीन’स खास दर्शक बनकर पहुंचे और कार्यक्रम का आनंद उठाया | सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रम के उपरांत वरिष्ठ गणमान्य व्यक्तियों ने नृत्य व स्टाल्स के विजेता विद्यार्थियों को 1 लाख से ज्यादा के इनामों से सम्मानित किया |

भव्य समागम के अंत में यूनिवर्सिटी के कुलपति श्री मित्तल ने विद्यार्थियों के कार्य की सराहना करते हुए कहा “यह सच है की भारत विभिन्न संस्कृतियों को समाये एक बहुत बड़ा व चित्ताकर्षक देश है, अगर किसी व्यक्ति को सम्पूर्ण भारत वर्ष के दर्शन करने हो तो उसे कई साल लग जाये लेकिन जिस संजीदगी और असाधारण ढंग से हमारे विद्यार्थियों ने दो दिनों में हमें भारत दर्शन करवाए उसका कोई तोड़ नहीं | खास बात यह रही की यूनिवर्सिटी में भारत के हर प्रदेश से विद्यार्थी शिक्षा प्राप्त कर रहा है और अपने-अपने प्रदेश को सब तक पहुँचाने में उन्हें कोई दिक्कत नहीं हुई | इन सभी विद्यार्थियों के सहयोग से आज एल.पी.यू कैंपस में हमने भारत दर्शन किये इसके लिए मैं विद्यार्थियों व सांस्कृतिक विभाग के सदस्यों का धन्यवाद करता हूँ” |

असम, कर्णाटक, राजस्थान, मिज्जोरम, आंध्र प्रदेश आदि जैसे कुछ प्रदेशों के विजेता विद्यार्थियों ने इनाम हासिल करने के बाद एक स्वर में कहा “यह दो दिन हमारे लिए बहुत ख़ास रहे | हमें बहुत ख़ुशी है की हमने अपने प्रदेश की अगुवाई करते हुए इनाम जीते पर उससे भी ज्यादा ख़ुशी हमें यह है की एक प्रतियोगी होते हुए भी हमने समस्त भारत को जाना | भारत से जुड़े जो तथ्य हमें इस प्रोग्राम के दौरान जानने को मिले वह हमारे लिए बिलकुल नए और नायाब थे, इस आयोजन के लिए हम अपनी यूनिवर्सिटी के आभारी है” |

28 States of India showcased their cultures at lovely Professional University

Twenty Eight States across India were fully displayed inside the campus of Lovely Professional University through its Department of Cultural Affairs, under the event ‘Unity in Diversity’, as its annual property. This was to provide all the students a mixed flavor of awareness for different Cultures, Customs, Costumes, Languages, Foods etc of India. This was celebrated with marvellous ceremonial splendour, at the campus for two days with the massive arrangement of 28 different stalls for the different states. The functioning of these was inaugurated, at a single stretch, separately, by the Chairman of the Lovely Group, Mr Romesh Mittal, Vice-Chairman Mr Naresh Mittal, Chancellor of the University, Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro-Chancellor Ms Rashmi Mittal, Director General Er HR Singla, Senior Deans, Deans and Associate Deans. Students from all the Schools of the University worked under co-ordination to display an assortment of specialties of these states, in terms of the annual theme of monuments and festivals of India.

Elaborating the motive of the mega event to the Media, the Chancellor Mr Mittal informed: “India’s great philosophy of Unity in Diversity has made it supreme and distinguished across globe. However, most of the persons remain ignorant about it. As such the Department of cultural affairs of the University has come forward to showcase the greatness of India annually under different themes every year. We want that our students who hail from different nooks and corners, not only of India but world also, must learn and imbibe the power of the common string that keeps binding all Indians together in oneness.” He further added: “We want to propagate this ideology of the great builders of our nation among them, through display of different aspects of Indian culture, face to face. As such they will themselves ponder over the ethnic diversity and start understanding each other better on humane grounds, across all barriers.”

After Lighting of the Lamp a huge colorful cultural procession, comprising of more than 1000 participating students proceeded to the celebration point. They displayed their thematic peculiarities of the state in terms of festive occasions, dances, melodies, attires etc. With the inauguration of the stalls, the students came to know about the facts and figures of each and every state. The well-depiction of famous Char-Minar, Taj Mahal, Konark Mandir, Howrah Bridge, Kullu Dussehra, Bodh -Gaya, Sanchi Stoop, Hawa Mahal, Gate-Way of India, Golden Temple, Goa Beach, Badri Nath, Land of Rising Sun, Kamakhya Temple, Kanglasha, Kharchi Pooja, Gwalior Fort, Sri JaganNath Rath-Yatra, Eden Garden, SAIL Industry,Khargpur Platform, each representing their state in miniature form, was applauded by all the onlookers. The participants also kept performing for the important dances of their states like Kuchipuddi, Bharatnatyam, Laavni, Oddissi, Bhangra, Giddha, Natti, Bihu etc. They had also set up separate kiosks to put on view the Ornaments and Dresses worn, the Food-Items relished, the Languages Spoken, the Singing, Music and Dancing enjoyed, in their respective states.

It is illustrative that LPU imparts professional education to more than 25,000 students from almost all the States, Union Territories of India and 16 other Countries from across the globe. A few students from Indonesia, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Congo, Bangladesh, Nepal said in a voice; “We were never aware of such rich traditions, customs and cultures prevalent in India. On visiting the different kiosks, we have a feeling of visiting the whole of India itself. This event has definitely given us an elaborated insight into how different customs and traditions are followed in different regions of this great country.”

*The topic was “Industrial Motivation Campaign for Self Employment Opportunities”

Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises[MSME], Ludhiana (Govt.of india] conducted a Seminar at Lovely Professional University. The topic was “Industrial Motivation Campaign for Self Employment Opportunities”. The Key speakers were Assistant Directors, MSME, Mr Ashok Kumar and Mr BK Chaudhary. They spoke about the key qualities of a good entrepreneur and entrepreneurship. Interactive and tutorial sessions were also held in this regard for the general benefit of the students.

Mr Chaudhary motivated the students to adopt Government oriented initiatives of self- employment. He discussed a broad questionnaire about this with the students to lay importance on the productiveness and utility of the small units. Whereas, Mr Kumar elaborated to them about different Government Schemes like Licensing, Trade Policy, Taxation-Excise Duty, Credit Poicy, Labour Policies etc. He also shared MSME Schemes like Market Development Assistance, Credit Link Capital Subsidy Scheme for Technology Up-gradation, Capacity Building, credit Guarantee Fund for Micro and small Enterprises.

Talking to Media, the Director General of the University, Er HR Singla informed: “The seminar proved to be very lively and interactive, where students interacted elaborately to get befitting answers to their queries.” He further added: “The way the speakers emphasized on self-employment opportunities, government initiatives and plans for budding and existing entrepreneurs, is really appreciable and applauding.” Providing more details, he said that pertaining to this, a tutorial session supported with video on “Entrepreneurship” was also taken up.

The event came to its close with the presentation of souvenir to speakers and vote of thanks by the Associate Dean, Institute of Management (LIM).  It is worth added illustration that Entrepreneurship Development Cell of the University is fully committed to nurture the spirit of Entrepreneurship among students under each and every aspect. It is to teach them to commercialize their innovative ideas to exist flourishingly. In fact, such events are part and parcel of the education system to channelize the enormous energies of the youth in creative works.

UDIT ARORA & SANTOSH KUMAR (1st position in the “INNO-Tech 2011”)

The Students of Lovely Professional University’s (Polytechnic Department) UDIT ARORA & SANTOSH KUMAR have made everyone proud by bagging the 1st position in the “INNO-Tech 2011”,organized by PUSHPA GUJRAL SCIENCE CITY & PUNJAB TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY.
The event was a Project Model Making Competition and the students created an Automation Project in which they made a ROBOTIC CAR,which could rotate in 4 directions without changing its position.
The students have done all the Teachers and the University Proud and we hope that they continue to excel in such endeavors in future.

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the Young Indians (YI), and Lovely Professional University collaboratively launched ‘Young Indian LPU Net’-a platform for young Indians to realize the dream of a developed nation. On this occasion, Dr. Parul Pandey (Chair, YI Nets) and Ms Swati Bansal( Executive CII) were prominently present. The MoU was signed in Chandigarh between CII-YI & LPU where Dr Navita Mahajan, Chairperson, Yi Chandigarh and Director LPU signed it. Dr Navita Mahajan remarked that “It gives Yi immense pleasure to start the first Yi Net in Punjab with Lovely Professional University. We look forward to great participation and involvement with lovely professional university in the year ahead.” Mr Akshay Bector, Chairman, CII Punjab Council and Dr Pandey witnessed this historical endeavour. This is the first Yi Net in Punjab and Yi has Chapters in more than 16 cities across India. On this occasion, Dr Pandey expressed: “It gives Yi immense pleasure to start the first Yi Net in Punjab with LPU. We look forward to great participation and involvement in the years ahead.” Whereas, Ms Bansal remarked: “it is going to be a great support to Yi in Punjab.”

The Chancellor of LPU, Mr Ashok Mittal said: “The collaboration with YI will provide a special platform to the students of the University and also help them to become the part of the Indian Growth Saga. As per the provisions, both the organizations are going to facilitate youth to unleash their potential and create a positive impact and to work effectively for promoting leadership skills among themselves.” He further mentioned: “More activities have been planned along with in near future including initiative to empower the students to work in the fields of education, employment, environment, youth affairs and health. The arrangement will also facilitate the university students’ interaction with young achievers.”

Yi Student Nets are formed by CII with a vision to influence, inspire and motivate the students across the country. These focus on bridging the gap between students and society by involving them in building a better India. The Yi membership base includes young progressive Indians comprising of entrepreneurs, professionals and progressive achievers from different walks of life.

Ministry of Culture(Govt. of India), North Zone Cultural Centre( Patiala) and Lovely Professional University have jointly paid befitting reverence towards World Theatre Day(WTD). The week- long celebration, opening on March 22 with a motivating play ‘Mind Games’ from Jammu region, saw the concluding day, March 27, with marvellous presentation of ‘Raunkan’ from Punjab with a great message to check female- foeticide. In between performances for five other plays, ‘Gaj Foot Inch’, ‘Aur Ek Sacch’, ‘Mote Ram ka Satyagraha’and ‘Gaddi Charan Di Kaahal Bari Si’, certainly created a new dimension in the Theatre Festival. These kept regularly and subtly permeating the souls of the gripped onlookers whether through action, direction, dialogues, scenes, sense or threads of the story.

Six National level eminent directors of these six superb plays from North zone, Mr Sumeet Sharma, Mr Kuldeep Sharma, Mr Aziz Quraishi, Mr RC Pathak, Mr Kewal Dhaliwal and Mr Sukhwinder Singh kept mesmerizing the audience of the University at Shri Baldev Raj Mittal Auditorium till the World Theatre Day. It was all through the excellence in their direction to portray alike the real good and bad characters from the society. They said i unison: “As thousands of students at LPU belong to most of the Indian states and different foreign lands; we earnestly feel that during this organization, the functional spectrum of the Ministry of Culture, to create cultural awareness from the grass root to the international cultural exchange level was fully up-held.” It was further added: “Acknowledging the World Theatre Day, It was to celebrate the local theatre experience globally. We are now feeling firmly that we are not alone in our pursuit, and theatre is not dead.”

Talking to the Media, the Chancellor of the University, Mr Ashok Mittal said: “With participation of many artists and directors of great stature from different regions, the event   forcefully revealed motivating and awakening ideas. No doubt it is an age of advance technology oriented Videos, CDs, 3-D depictions etc; the way the university students kept spell bound throughout all the performances is really a great tribute to the World Theatre Day.” Anticipating that they must have learnt a lot from this ancient form of art and style, he further added: “Being in unison with the Ministry of Culture, we, too, are very keen towards preserving, promoting and disseminating all forms of art and culture.”

It is worth illustration that the North Zone Cultural Center is one of the seven cultural centers established in the country to strengthen the ancient roots of Indian Culture. It comprises regions from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttrakhand, Rajasthan & Chandigarh (U.T)
