(NPCL) organized a placement camp at Lovely Professional University in which  20 students of Lovely Professional University, Phagwara got placed with the company at an attractive pay package of Rs. 4.6 lakhs per annum. The selected students belonged to final years of MBA, B Tech (CSE & IT) and MCA. The selections were made after a rigorous schedule comprising of aptitude test, group discussion and final interview. The postings for the B.Tech students will be based at Gwalior whereas the MBA graduates will handle various offices spread across Northern India.
The company hired the students to various positions like HR Executive, Asst. Manager (Retail), Asst. Manager ( Back Office), Relationship Manager, Portfolio Manager, Programmer, Software Developer, Database Developer, Web Designer etc.

LPU-a global cultural melting pot

LPU offers education to students from 5 different countries, 24 different states of India and interns from 7 foreign countries. LPU conducted a Global Village event as a way to learn the cultural heritage of various countries, and celebrate the unity in diversity. Globalization is a concept, no longer confined to corporate world. Education sector is now witnessing this phenomenon like never before, because education providers are now hiring the best of teachers from all across the globe and also giving admissions to the most talented of the students from the world over. This program was the first of a series of events under the broad program aimed at celebrating the global cultural diversity,  over a couple of months.

Shri Baldev Raj Mittal Auditorium got transformed into a global cultural melting pot; as a festival by the name of “Global Village” showcased the best of cultures of countries represented by the foreign interns working at Lovely Professional University. Interns from 8 different countries i.e. Lithuania, Turkey, Cameroon, Sweden, Chile, Brazil, Russia and Ivory Coast, put of a marvelous display of the best of what their respective countries have to offer to the world. The program was inaugurated by Shri Ashok Mittal, Chancellor before an estimated audience of 500 people.

Apart from the cultural show, the participants from foreign countries also displayed other unique offerings from their countries through stall-exhibitions. Ms. Jimena, who is from the highlands of Chile prepared an indigenous dish “Chilean Salad” exhibiting the rich culinary arts of the South American nation. Ms. Carolina, representing Brazil was all smiles as she dished out special chocolates called “Brigadeiro”, also referred as the ‘National Candy of Brazil’.  Ms. Ruta,  from Lithuania. Akra from Ivory Coast made people dance to the musical notes of his country, as many from the audience approached him for casual “teach-me-this” requests. The event lasted for till late evening, as applauds to performances and casual interactions with foreign interns marked the celebrations. On part of the foreigners, they equally enjoyed the applause and appreciation heaped upon them by the overwhelming audience. Mrs. Rashmi  Mittal concluded the event by presenting awards to the participants and with the declaration that a mega event on global diversity will soon be celebrated in the campus.

The fashion fest of Lovely Professional University “Brand Wagon -09”, got of to a flying start on Thursday 16 December 2009, as established fashion brands of the stature of JCT, Olega, Neva, Cotton County, K-mark, Duke, Indra Garments, Ruko-Tina, Chilly Sources etc. displayed the most up-to-date and the most attractive of their fashion products at the Exhibition-cum-Sale section of the fest.
Though the various designer brands were flanking their most catchy and a-la-mode dresses, but the crowd was sold out to the “Centre Stall”, the pavilion featuring the designer dresses made themselves by the students of LPU. The participating students had made dresses of varied styles, with winter-wears of Western and Japanese style dominating the whole lot.
The students found the creative talent of their fellow batch mates, through wonderful designer wears, making it hard for them to make a choice as to what to choose from such a big lot of exciting things on display.

Mrs. Rashmi Mittal, Executive Dean-LPU the Chief Guest of the event, appreciated the contribution of students and said that the creative streaks of the student designers really deserved a thumping applause. She found it a matter of great surprise that the hidden talent of indigenous students found a vent through events like this.

LPU organized a two day fashion event ‘Brand Wagon’ in the campus on 17th and 18th of December 2009. The event was embraced with top line international models, organizer and fashion pundits of the fashion industry. The two day fashion event allowed the biggest fashion brands like JCT, Olega, Neva, Cotton County, K-mark, Duke, Indra garments, Ruko-Tina, Chilly Sources and My FM to flaunt their contemporary products in the university’s campus as well. The event was divided in to two stages, the first day observed an exhibition cum sale to that boasted to be the display ground of the most up-to-date collection of the biggest fashion trends in the industry and  featured products and clothes designed by the students of fashion technology as well as big brand names. Through various kiosks the fashion buffs were able to enjoy the display of the most edgy designs of the season. Not only this, they were be able to purchase the products which were available for the LPU students at a very cost effective price.

The evening of the second day followed with a fashion show, putting on view the newest designs from the top designers. Ace models and choreographers like Jyoti, Bharti, Tia, Karan, Sunaina, Hida, Shoaib, Harshita, Jubli, Pratishta, Gulzar, Anil and Candy, who have the experience of working in big events such as Lakme Fashion Week,were present to grace the university’s stage.

This was the first time that an event of such magnitude shall take place in Jalandhar. With all these big names associated with the event, it created a stir and left a lasting impression on the minds of Jalandhar City.

A total of 51 students from B. Tech (Honours) from varied disciplines like Electronics & Communication Engg., Computer Science Engineering, Information Technology, Bio-Technology & Mechanical Engineering took part in the exhibition and put to display a total of 19 technology driven projects. These demonstrated items comprised of an exciting assortment of gadgets, machines, softwares, hardware etc.
Among major attractions of the event were “Wireless appliance controller” – a circuit, which once installed in a room, controls every electrical appliance in it with the help of a remote control. The “Home Automation System” was based on a circuit capable of controlling electrical appliances in one’s home, while sitting anywhere in the world using a mobile phone. The “Automated White Board Wiper” was a mechanical device designed to clean a white-board by a self driven machine. “Bago-moto” was a portable scooty-cum-college bag, which can be used to store books in bulk and could also be used as a mini-scooer to commute within the campus .

The fest was inaugurated by Shri Ashok Mittal, Chancellor-LPU and Ms. Rashmi Mittal, Executive Dean-LPU, in presence of nearly 15000 students of the University. The evening was characterized by music and dance with various band performances from various schools of the University. The first day of the fest saw a crowd of hundreds tapping their feet and shaking themselves to the tunes of “Astitva” and “Divine Sanity”, the two rock bands of the University. Amongst the major events of the day were Group Dance, Ghazal, Indian Group Song, Western Group Song, Solo tabla, Creative song, Punjabi Folk song, Mimickry, Mime, Folk Orchestra etc. A separate venue hosted the audience with a taste of theater as one play performance followed the other. Underlining the significance of the Youth Festival, Mr. Mittal in his address to the students said, “The major objective of conducting the fest is to encourage and nurture the cultural talent of the students of the University by bringing to fore various genre of art and literary events which will have a demonstrative and developmental effect on the hidden talent of thousands of the students studying in the University.” The fest will continue for the second day on Sunday, and promises more of entertainment, fun and learning on its last day.

Lovely Professional University has a separate division called the Division of Academia Industry Interface. The division is playing the role of a bridge between the Industry and the student community through meaningful interaction which is intellectually stimulating and brings awareness to the faculty and the students to prepare according to the changing demands of the Industry. More than 150 multinational companies visited the LPU campus for recruitment, offering jobs to more than 3000 students. The division also acts as a consultancy source for projects and assignments of direct relevance to the Industry, acting as a conduit between LPU and the external world to facilitate technology transfer.
